Learn to Rollerblade by Watching Videos
Rollerblading is an activity best learned and enjoyed by actually wearing a pair of rollerblades and attempting a safe run. Some of us may actually have learned the basics from our moms, dads, siblings or friends who are rollerblade freaks themselves.
However, not all of us are that lucky. Sometimes what we have are truly just a pair of rollerblades and a bunch of rollerblading dreams. But wait! There are rollerblading videos that we can turn to for help. Whether you’re a beginner or an old pro looking for a refresher course, a figure skater or an aspiring hockey player, there are rollerblading videos you can watch to help you get your feet (or wheels) on the pavement safely and confidently. Here are a few:
Learn to In-Line Skate by Debbie Merrill
This video can help you get started as a rollerblading devil. Merrill will run you through the prelims such as body awareness and alignment (important for maintaining your balance), safety equipment, basic skating, falling techniques (yes, it’s bound to happen, so you might as well learn how to do it safely), maintaining control, turning and of course, braking.
Merrill will also teach you how to move your arms, brake with your heels and even perform a few tricks. You’ll be glad to know that she is endorsed by a lot of celebrities, including actresses Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue) and Melanie Griffith and even LA’s ex-mayor Richard Riordan.
In-Line Fun
This video is designed for kids, who will enjoy its entertaining and easy-to-follow program. They will learn the basics of starting, stopping and striding on rollerblades. It also covers topics on safety gear and equipment and how to wear them properly. The whole program lasts only 30 minutes and it will make a great gift for young beginners. It’s available in VHS format only.
Blade Running
This rollerblading video lasts only 26 minutes, but that’s probably all the time you’ll need to learn all the basic lessons and information necessary to help you get started with your rollerblading days. The tips and advice are given in a clear and fun tone and will help you improve your skating style significantly.
Skate Fit: The Complete In-Line Skate by Carolyn Bradley
This video’s runtime is 40 minutes, enough for Bradley to show you how to skate. This video is for using rollerblades for fitness, but there are a lot of tips and advice you can learn from Bradley herself, who heads Team Rollerblade and Camp Rollerblade.
